The Return of the Canadian Mathlete

A few months ago I launched Divide By Maple as a platform to continue my joy in writing and to give myself a reason to pursue my interests. Before this site I worked for Ten Ton Hammer as a Content Contributor and eventually the Community Manager for Up until these last few months I had been writing nonstop for two years and working on being a leading expert in all things gaming. Then it all came to a screeching halt.

So what happened? What about my promise to continue writing and be an open book with all of you about where I will lead Divide By Maple? I've seen a few questions shot in my direction about where I went and what my plans were. To those close to me in this internet sphere it seemed like I had all but disappeared off the face of the earth. For that I apologize. However, I like to think I had a legitimate reason:

It feels so nice to type that out and let all the questions finally be put to rest. After Ten Ton Hammer I had to find a job to pay the bills. I had some money saved and a severance package but I needed to get a new job under my feet before I could focus down on pursuing my passion for journalism.

Furthermore, these last thirty days have been quite a period of acclimation to the new line of work I am in. Suffice to say a lot of my energy has been spent on this new job and then I just come home to recharge my batteries enough for the next day. I'm only just now getting to a point where I am capable of juggling the responsibility of a journalist while also maintaining the amount of productivity expected of me at work.

All I ask if a bit of understanding for these quiet months behind us. The stress of not having a job and then learning a new job all took first priority. I apologize for disappearing but now that my life is on track I can give you all the words that I can muster.

Now that we have that out of the way I can bring you some big news that I've been sitting on. First on the plate is a massive purchase I just made due to all this fancy workin' money:

I have a new computer! It is awesome! I spent way too much money on it but I have wanted a new computer for a long time and this is the beast that I have dreamed of.

The specs are as follows:

  • Gigabye GA-z97-Gaming 3 motherboard
  • Intel i7 4790 CPU
  • 16 GB of DDR3 1866 DIMM RAM
  • 250 GB SSD
  • 1 TB HDD

You'll notice I haven't added the graphics card on the list. That is simply because that this machine (including a case and some minor peripherals) has already cost me nearly $1,500. On the 20th of this month I intend to pick up the last piece: A specialized edition of the GeForce GTX 970. Until then I'm using my old GPU from my old machine. It isn't the worst card but I seriously cannot wait for this new GPU. I'm practically ashamed of this old card so I won't list it here.

Strix GTX 970

I brought up my new computer for a very specific reason. If you have followed me in the past you will notice that I erred away from streaming and posting videos to YouTube. I've done it but they weren't of the best quality. With this new beast of a machine I intend to come back into the world of gaming journalism with a bang. You can expect that the moment that I have this new card that I will be bringing you content and information practically every day. I haven't worked out the fine details of how often I'll do what but there will be a weekly schedule that I will share the moment I've hammered out the details.

I just want you, my lovely readers, to understand that there is a continuing plan. I intend to be moving very fast over this year and be announcing a lot of news both personal and about games or whatever project I'm currently working on in the shop. If you are the type to watch streams or videos you may just even notice some massive changes since the last I've appeared on those mediums.

For now I will leave you with one last piece of news to keep you all sated and excited.

Any of you who are interested in Pathfinder Online may be excited to hear I've netted a brief access to the alpha that I intend to write about. Look back to Divide By Maple for content, guides and commentary about this new MMO written by your's truly. If you like my Guild Wars 2 guides or editorials you can bet that there will be more of that but better than ever.

Pathfinder Online

As always:

Thank you for reading and being awesome. I truly wouldn't be here without you.
